A student-built future

We are building the future, and we are not asking for permission.

The Better Futures Initiative (BFI) is a movement of students, engineers, and creators who refuse to wait for institutions, governments, or “the system” to fix the world. We design solutions, build real projects, and develop the skills to reshape reality — now, not “one day.”

Time to act

A disciplined network of students building the world we actually want to live in.

Imagine the best version of civilisation you can. Smarter cities. Cleaner energy. Saner laws. Stronger mental health systems. Education that actually teaches you how to build. Good — now stop imagining it and start engineering it.

“If you can picture a better world, you don’t wait for permission. You start building.”
We build
Robotics. Sustainable systems. Tools. We prototype real solutions to real problems. We ship, test, improve.
We teach
We create free, open-access engineering education for anyone — especially people who never got a fair shot.
We organise
We connect people with vision. You’re not left isolated in your uni or your city. We build teams across campuses.
We speak
We produce talks, content, and presence. We set a standard. We make ambition normal.

This is not a club. This is not vibes. This is organised.

Everyone in BFI is here for a reason. We’re building an organisation with real standards, responsibilities, output, and accountability.

Casuals
Learn & skill up
You start here. You learn core skills — engineering, research, thinking clearly, communicating, building. You get access to our material and our projects.
Visionaries
You lead
You pitch a project: robotics, AI, sustainability, policy, whatever. If it’s not morally insane, it gets greenlit. You assemble a team. We help you get resources and reach.
Elders
You keep it moving
Elders coordinate: events, partnerships, inter-university collaboration, making sure teams are actually progressing — not just talking.
Responsibility
Every visionary must produce a minimum of 3 hours of content: what you’re building, why it matters, how it works. That becomes free education for the next generation.

We're building an open, zero-cost robotics curriculum — starting with a robotic arm.

We are documenting every part of building a robotic arm: CAD, mechanics, control theory, electronics, firmware, kinematics, motion planning, vision. We’re tearing it down so someone in high school can follow it, even if they’ve never touched code.

Hardware
3D printable. Low cost.
The arm is intentionally cheap (< £50 in parts), rebuildable, and modifiable.
Education
From algebra up
We teach the maths and code from first principles so no one is filtered out for lack of pedigree.
Access
Global, free, forever
The content will be permanently accessible at no cost. No premium tier. Everyone gets everything.

This is your invitation.

If you're serious about building, you’re welcome. We’re looking for people who want to design, to prototype, to solve, to push.
